THE Government has ordered for the closure of all shebeens operating in Choma following continued noise pollution affecting learners  and other residents in Zambia township.
Choma District Commissioner Sheena Muleya issued the ban during the District Preparedness Epidemic Committee meeting held at the district health office conference hall in Choma.
Ms Muleya said her office had received complaints from Kalundu Kamaria Community School which was surrounded by shebeens that had been disturbing learners at the School.
“These shebeens have been disturbing the learners as they play loud music while others visit the school premises, and use the school toilet facilities which should not be the case.
“If we can’t give the children anything its better we give them the education, from now onwards we shall close all shebeens operating near schools, clinics and Churches,” she said.
Choma Municipal Council senior health inspector Stephen Chama said the local authority would take legal action against those operating shebeens in undesignated areas.
