Construction of the US$45.5 million Mukuba Shopping Mall in Kitwe,  has reached an advanced stage and will be ready for commissioning by April next year.
The mall is expected to generate more than 1,000 jobs at the construction stage and many more after completion.
Kitwe District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KDCCI) predident Raj Karamuchand said in an interview yesterday that the contractor was on schedule and that despite heavy rains, the work was progressing well and the mall would be ready for commissioniong by April, 2015.
The first stage of the project involves construction of shops as well as furnishing by the owners.
Heriot Properties Investment Limited, a South African company, is the developer of the project which is situated at the former Kitwe Zoo on Chiwala Road.
Recently, Heriot Properties Investment Limited director Steven Herrings said the company would try as much as possible to give local suppliers business opportunities during the construction stage as well as providing meaningful corporate social responsibility activities.
“The mall will host major international tenants such as Shoprite, Pick ‘n’ Pay, Mr Price, Jets, Spar Truworths and Edgars, among others,” he said.
