The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) is right to call on the Government to hasten the issuance of a Statutory Instrument (SI) which will restrict importation of raw materials as well as some finished products that can be produced locally.
If the Government is serious about revamping the local manufacturing sector, then this is the time to make that decision. Zambia is capable of churning out most of these imported consumer goods on which the country spends more foreign exchange.
Hundreds of jobs from exporters of these products to Zambia, have more than doubled at the expense of employment creation for the locals.
ZB casava deal good
Zambian women entrepreneurs should take advantage of the new deal with Zambian Breweries (ZB) in which they will be required to sell cassava to feed the company’s opaque beer plants to be operational soon.
It is also important for the Zambia Federation Association of Women in Business(ZFAWB) to work out plans to enable these women obtain loans for the development of cassava farms.
This will not only help to create employment through value addition, but will also assist in wealth creation and poverty alleviation.
