LUSAKA lawyer Ludwig Sondashi has sued MMD vice president for politics Michael Kaingu for defamation of character.
Dr Sondashi has also separately sued two private newspapers, the The Post and Daily Nation claiming similar remedies over separate articles they published against him which he feels brought his
name into ridicule and disrepute.
He has in all the three suits asked the Lusaka High Court to grant him an injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing similar defamatory words against him.
He is also demanding damages for libel and other remedies.
Dr Sondashi, leader for opposition party, Forum for Democratic Alternatives (FDA), said he gave an interview to the media where he said his party would not go into an alliance with a party that had a
record of promoting corruption like MMD.
He added that an article under the headline “FDA rules out joining opposition alliance” was published in
the The Post newspaper of February 5.
He said following his statement, Dr Kaingu who is Mwandi Member of Parliament gave an interview to the media, indicating that he was aware of the reason why Dr Sondashi was fired as Works and Supply minister by late former president Fredrick Chiluba and challenged him to explain to the nation.
He said the The Post newspaper later published an article headlined “Explain why you were fired, Kaingu dares Sondashi” while the Daily Nation published another article headlined “Sondashi angers MMD”
Dr Sondashi said that Dr Kaingu was quoted as stating that MMD was not corrupt.
He sued the The Post Newspaper over a follow up.
The Daily Nation wasequally sued over a follow-up story quoting Dr Kaingu.
He said that the words were bitter, malicious and unjustifiable attack because Dr Kaingu meant and was understood to mean that he was a corrupt person who was unfit to practice law and vie for president of
the nation.
