AIRTEL Networks Zambia has launched its 17 days of Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at providing support to the community where it has been operating for many years.
Airtel Networks Zambia managing director, Charity Lumpa said during the launch and donation of medical equipment to Balm Medical Centre in Lusaka’s Kabwata area that the mobile service provider wanted to affirm its commitment to empower the communities.
Ms Lumpa said Airtel was running various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that focus on health, education, environment and youth empowerment.
“These four pillars not just for Airtel Networks Zambia Plc but also for the country as a whole as we strive to attain the Vision 2030 that seeks to turn Zambia into a middle income Country.
“We have skillfully tailored our CSR initiatives in a way that they not only impact the recipients but also give them a platform to unlock their full potential and make meaningful contributions to our country,” she said.
She said Airtel had in the past donated medical equipment worth over K100, 000 for hospital refurbishment and purchase of medical equipment and that it would continue to do so.
Ms Lumpa said yesterday’s donation at Balm Clinic signified the launch of the 17 Days of Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
She said from yesterday until Mid- July, all Airtel employees across the country would be actively involved in impacting the communities around them.
Among the donated items were wheel chairs, steam steriliser, Haemoglobin analyzer, BP Machine and other items worth more than K 13,000.
Speaking at the same event, Health Minister Joseph Kasonde said his presence was a clear testimony of Government’s relentless efforts to ensure that the role of the corporate sector and non-governmental organisations in the health sector is enhanced.
Dr Kasonde said Government had come to appreciate the importance of involving the private sector in economic development agenda of the country.
