Breaking Barriers LOGOUnless you crawled out from under a rock, I am certain you have at least heard about this particular law as it was made famous by a special documentary presentation entitled “The Secret” which was launched on Oprah, not to mention the fact that it has been peddled by virtually every bookshop under the personal development section!
In the same book and documentary, one law that is studied at length is this “Law of Attraction”. This law is not new as it has been discussed by many and is also tackled fully by Napoleon
Hill in his groundbreaking book “Think and Grow Rich” and “The Law of Success”. In fact he is the first one to present it in a detailed way and then Norman Vincent Peale came and elaborated on this concept further with his own bestseller “The Power of Positive Thinking”.
A close study shows you an underlying pattern. That pattern is this one…
What you allow your mind to dwell on – expands. It starts with thoughts; these thoughts become feelings (we know all this because we tackle it under the Laws of Belief and Expectation). When we dwell on and think so much about something, it will dominate all our thoughts, these thoughts affect all our actions which affect our results.
But there is something even more subtle but is very true, if we think about something all the time, we then tend to speak about it as well. When it becomes an obsession, then in time we give that item enough power to literally materialize! Let me show you below…
In Matt 12:35 Jesus declares literally that if one has a heart filled with evil, it will “fling” forth evil whilst a good heart will bring forth good things. The Greek word ekballo signifies bringing into existence through ejection, as in forcing out, expelling, plucking out or thrusting out! Now think about it for a moment. Proverbs 18:21 declares that death and life are in the power of the mouth. Here the word used for “power of the tongue” (yawd) literally means an open hand! This signifies a hand that has ability to manipulate and either draw or send away whatever is spoken.
Think about it! God created all humanity by His Word. We are created in the image of God thus we are technically gods but with a small “g”. If God could create by His Word, then we can to a minor degree create by our words.
Now here’s the whopper. When we speak by faith that which we believe and mean it, then it immediately has power to manifest! Not only will it manifest, but it will even draw all resources necessary for it to take place. Jesus declares these words and says… Mark 11:23 (NKJV) 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says’
Notice the word “says” occurs three times? Nothing is by chance in the Bible.
The fact that Jesus declares repeatedly “says”, tells you that what we believe and speak, shall surely happen.
Now, the strange part about this Law of Attraction is that it too is neuter, if your belief system is negative and tempered with much negative thoughts and experiences and you believe these negative thoughts, you will attract the very thing you fear into your life. You will inevitably speak out all the negative you feel and soon, that negative takes shape – and happens precisely the way you saw or feared! How many times have you heard people say “Just as I thought!” or “My worst fears have been fulfilled!” You have heard of “self-fulfilling prophecies”, right? These are statements you make or think about yourself (whether positive or negative) that in time happen exactly the way you say it.
I once knew a man (former minister in government here in Zambia) who loved driving so fast that one day we were so terrified of his speed that we asked him why he enjoyed driving so fast! He answered and said that he has a policy, if ever he gets involved in an accident, he wants to die on the spot rather than linger on as an invalid. He actually said he wanted to have pieces of himself picked up off the road rather than be found half alive! Three years after he made that statement, he died precisely as he always indicated. His body was so damaged that they had to literally pick up his brain matter off the tarmac. So eerie, but so true! Be careful what you speak about all the time, for it will certainly happen one day.
You always attract what is in harmony with your thinking or thoughts! It seems our minds emit “vibes” or “energy” in the ethereal plane that has power to lock in with like-minded energy which in turn begins to move “things” from the “unseen” world into the “seen” world.
Ask yourself this question, why does God ask us to pray always? To make supplications? To bring petitions before Him? I believe that our prayers bring into play this Law of Attraction and work in conjunction with God to bring about the good we seek. On the other hand, if we always focus on the negative, speaking failure and misery, we activate these energies in the ethereal plane (heavenlies) and sooner or later, they materialise. Why was God so mad with the Israelites for being so negative? (Read the story in Deut 9).
He already assured them of success in Canaan, but they instead chose to go with what they saw and perceived within themselves rather than believe what God told them.
Do you remember the much beloved Hosanna Integrity Chorus that says and I quote…
“And now, let the weak say I am strong, let the poor say I am rich, because of what, the Lord has done, for us!”
Notice it all comes back to what the Matthew passage spoke about? “Say”, “speak”, “declare” and even “prophesy”! Speak into the situation, speak to yourself, make a declaration and soon, the things you speak will happen.
Why is it that Phil 4:8 states that only things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of a good report, that we should always think on these things, meditate on them and keep our minds fixed on them instead. Remember, that which we always think about (meditate on) will affect our emotions, words and deeds. There is truly power in what we speak. It will draw our way the very thing we speak about!

Now ask yourself this question, where are you in your life right now? Do you realise that where you are today is the result of all the choices and decisions your made yesterday? Your choices and decisions attracted all the opportunities as well as what may appear as some of the “misfortunes” in your life? Only by accepting this will you truly begin to harness the power of this
Law of Attraction.
So, go a step further, look at all the achievements in your life – acknowledge and take credit for them, be grateful for them and use them to excel even greater. One more step, look at all the failures and shortfalls in your life as well, – acknowledge and take responsibility, for from this you will learn from them and use these apparent “failures” as life lessons, and instead relearn what is the correct way to turn things around for the better.
Do you remember the Be – Do – Have paradigm? It stated that in life you do not have to do anything, that instead it’s a question of what you are being right now! Go straight to being what you want and you will then be caused to do things by default to cause you to have it!
In order to attract the right things, you must become the right things! Be what you want to see, think what you want to see, feel what you want to see, speak what you want to see and sooner or later, you will attract and thus become that which you want to see!
Next week we will be looking at the Law of Correspondence.
