Tone down VAT refund debate

BRIEF-CASETHE issue of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) – Value Added Tax (VAT) Rule Number 18 has been blown out of proportion, at the expense of other equally important matters.
Briefcase feels that enough has been heard from the opponents and proponents of this rule, which is a mere guideline on the refunding of VAT to exporters by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Surely, enough has been said while the effects of continued withholding of the huge amounts of VAT from the mines and other exporters are biting.

2015 budget expectations rise

WITH two days more to the date Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda is expected to unveil the 2015 National Budget to Parliament and the nation, the air of expectancy is rising.
For the past few months, economic stakeholders have been restating their proposals on what changes they would like to see come 2015 Budget.
Briefcase has only one wish, that all stakeholders, with various and sometimes opposing needs, would for once be uniformly contented with the contents of the budget.
