THE Kabwe magistrate’s court has acquitted a Zambia Air Force officer who was appearing in court for theft of K10,000 from a retired Zambia Army officer.
This is in a case in which Peter Nyirongo,28, denied one count of theft, where he allegedly stole K10,000 from Samuel Mwamba, between September 29 and October 8, 2012.
During the trial, Mr Mwamba narrated that he was a retired soldier and that his benefits were deposited in a Zanaco account but was later surprised to discover that K30,000 was withdrawn without his consent.
He narrated in court that he later approached Zanaco Bank, who informed him that the transfers were made after receiving a letter purported to have been signed by himself.
Zanaco Kabwe branch manager Gideon Kamanga narrated that the bank had received instructions  on three different dates and got suspicious over the transfers and summoned the account holder.
Mr Kamanga said according to the transactions, the K10,000 was transferred from the  complainant’s account on October 6, 2012 through Zanaco Chingola branch into Nyirongo’s account.
He narrated that two other transfers were made into Gabriel Chula’s account through the Zanaco Cairo business branch on October 10, while another transfer was made on October 16, 2012.
At the closure of calling of prosecution witnesses, magistrate Sebastian Mwenya found the accused with no case to answer and acquitted him.
