By SANDRA MWILA –

WITH just 24 hours to the World Boxing Council (WBC) defence title fights, organisers Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) are still battling to raise K253,000 to stage the tournament in Lusaka.
OQBP operations manager Christopher Malunga said in an interview yesterday that they still have a K253,000 deficit from the K673,000 budget unveiled to host the event.
“We are positive that the K253,000 deficit will be met before the fight because sponsors are still coming on board,” Malunga said.
He said everything was set for the title defence fight between WBC Silver bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri and South Afica’s Bukiwe Nonina at the Government Complex.
WBC International welterweight king, Charles Manyuchi will battle with Colombia’s David Carcese.
“The boxers have prepared in a positive direction, it won’t be easy for them defending their titles for the first time,” he said.
Malunga urged the boxers to remain disciplined and focused ahead of tomorrow’s fights.
He said the pugilists who were taking part in the supporting bouts should equally take their fights seriously.
“All boxers should remain disciplined inside and outside the ring failure to which they will be kicked out because discipline is cardinal,” Malunga said.
