THE Cycling Association of Zambia (CAZ) is scouting for $5000 to clear its outstanding debts in annual subscription fees to international bodies.
CAZ president Peter Chintu said in an interview yesterday that the association had not cleared its 2014 subscription due to lack of sponsorship.
Chintu said the association owed the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) and Zambia risked being deregistered if CAZ does not clear their debts before March 2015.
He said the association wanted to clear the debts and appealed to the corporate world to come on board to help raise the required amount.
“We need sponsors to help and support the cycling sport in Zambia because we do not want to be deregistered but to take this sport to higher levels,” he said.
Chintu said despite the association looking for sponsors, CAZ had plans to fundraise for the money to settle the bills before focusing on other programmes.
Meanwhile, CAZ will stage the 2015 One Zambia Mountain Bicycle race at Lilayi Lodge in Lusaka.
He said the First National Bank would sponsor the race and that 200 cyclists were expected to participate.
