ACTING President Guy Scott has said the election of Defence Minister Edgar Lungu as Patriotic Front (PF) president is null and void.
Dr Scott said at a press briefing at the Presidential Guest House in Kabwe shortly after Mr Lungu was declared unopposed that whatever happened at Mulungushi Rock of Authority was null and void because elections would only be held today.
He said the accreditation process that started in Kabwe yesterday would instead continue and culminate into what he called legitimate elections today.
“As far as we are concerned, Hon Lungu declared himself president and went to Lusaka, that is not how a PF president is elected,” Dr Scott said.
The acting President also said Mr Lungu was free to return to Kabwe and participate in today’s election.
As things stood, there was a possibility of having two PF presidential candidates which was undesirable.
Dr Scott was flanked by other aspiring candidates including Commerce Minister Bob Sichinga, his deputy Miles Sampa, Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and Kabwata MP Given Lubinda.
Others were Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Selemani Pangula Banda, Wylbur Simuusa, acting PF secretary general Bridget Atanga and his deputy Anthony Kasolo.
