THE Government has awarded ELisa Corporation of Finland a contract worth 736,644 Euros, to develop Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure at selected Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) offices under e-government system.

The Private Sector Development Reform Programme (PSDRP) partnered with Zampost to develop an integrated Government self-service kiosk in selected districts where the private and public sector will be accessing government services online.

The three initial sites for the service would be set-up in Lusaka, Ndola and Kitwe.

Speaking at the launch of the programme Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska said Government was committed to reducing the cost of doing business.

“This project is part of the overall e-government programme through which Government intends to transform the way in which it delivers services to citizens, business as well as its own Government departments and institutions in a more easier efficient and convenient manner,” Dr Msiska said.

The funding was facilitated under the Private Sector Development Reform Programme (PSDRP).

Zampost was tasked by Government to run an open tender to procure consultancy services to support the delivery of integrated Government services.

He urged agencies whose services were designated to run on the self service kiosks, to collaborate fully with the consultants.

Recently, Dr Msiska launched Government wide area network as part of the e-governance programme to be implemented by Zamtel.

Finish Ambassador to Zambia Timo Olkkonen said his country would continue working with Zambia in the areas economic cooperation.

“The Finish government is working on ways of how to increase trade volumes and investment with Zambia because of the growing interest by Finish investors,” he said.

Zampost Post master general Macpherson Chanda assured Government of efficient services once the project was finalised.

PSDRP coordinator Kayula Siame said the successful implementation of the project would change the way of doing business for both public and private sector in the country.
