TRANSPORT, Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga has said that the country’s infrastructure sector has continued to grow at 17.5 per cent annually.
Mr Mukanga has also announced that 24 projects in the road sector which represents 2, 460 kilometres were under construction at different stages.
He said at the ‘Meet The Minister’ dinner organised by the National Council for Construction (NCC) on Friday evening at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka that about 327.69 kilometres of road under Link Zambia project had been done as of October 31st this year.
Under the ‘Pave Zambia 2,000’ project, the Road Development Agency (RDA) has restored and
commissioned brick making machines in all regions with exception of Northern and Muchinga provinces where operations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Additionally, the expansion works of Burma, Chilimbulu and Mumbwa roads are currently going.
Mr Mukanga said the overall project currently stood at 87.32 kilometres, which was a representation of 21 per cent.
The RDA is also implementing a total of 32 major road construction and rehabilitation projects in addition to the Link Zambia 8,000.
He said as of October 31, this year, a total of 1,293 Km had been worked on out of 2,500 kilometres that was under the implementation stage.
Mr Mukanga also said the National Airports Corporation (NAC) had a five-year strategic plan to upgrade and expand its four airports and air navigation services to internationally recognized standards and
services.
He said (NAC) had continued on its ambitious infrastructure upgrade programme at a cost of over US$900 million this year.
The Government secured the long awaited radar surveillance system for the Kenneth Kaunda, Harry Mwanga Nkumbula and Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airports.
