A PEDESTRIAN in Mazabuka has died on the spot after being hit by a tyre which came off a moving motor vehicle along the Mazabuka-Lusaka Road.
Bridget Kasamu, a resident of Hazena Village, who was walking along the same road, died after being hit by the tyre.
Southern Province Police Chief, Mary Chikwanda, confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday.
The incident happened on Monday around mid-day near Nyati Farms on the Mazabuka-Lusaka Road.
Ms Kasamu was hit by the tyre which came off a moving Nissan van registration number ALL 5740 and driven by Derrick Meyer, 28.
“There was a traffic accident involving Derrick Meyer who was driving a Nissan and one of the tyres came off and in the process hit her (Ms Kasamu) and she died on the spot,” she said.
Mr Meyer was heading towards Lusaka direction while Ms Kasamu was walking on the opposite direction when the tyre came off and hit her in the process.
Ms Chikwanda said that the body was in Mazabuka District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a witch-finder and his son have been apprehended in Samfya for beating people and grabbing their property on pretext of identifying them being witches and wizards.
David Kalumba 47 and his son Chisenga 17, of Malombola village in Chief Kasoma’s area were picked up by police after it was discovered that they were beating up people and grabbing their property after naming them to be witches and wizards.
Police in Lusaka rushed to the area upon receiving reports of the reoccurring incidents and the duo is currently in police custody.
