By JULIUS PHIRI –

GOVERNMENT has awarded Sable Transport and Construction Limited a K129 million contract to tar township roads in Petauke District.
Both Petauke District Commissioner Velenasi Banda-Moyo and Council Secretary Pathias Sumba confirmed in separate interviews yesterday that the contractor was engaged to construct 19.05 kilometres of township roads.
Ms Banda-Moyo said the company was given a contract to tar the township roads after Government terminated the contract of Plinth who had earlier been given the contract but failed to fulfill it.
She said Sable was currently doing mobilisation works in readiness to start the actual works.
“Yes, Sable has been given a contract to tar the township roads in Petauke District,” Ms Banda-Moyo said.
Some of the roads to be tarred in the 14-month period include Omelo Mumba, Nyamphande, Fair view and Ukwimi-loop.
