11 Ethiopians fined for illegal entry

THE ISOKA Magistrate’s Court has convicted and fined 11 Ethiopians K1,000 each for unlawful entry into the country.
Immigration department public relations officer Nshinka Namati has said.
The eleven, all male aged between 16 and 25 years were arrested on December 24, last year in Isoka following a tip off from members of the public after they were spotted travelling on foot.
The foreigners are said to have failed to produce documentation at the time of their arrest.
The same court also convicted and fined four Burundese K2,000 each for unlawful entry.
In a related development, the magistrate’s court in Sesheke on Monday, convicted and sentenced five Congolese to one month simple imprisonment each for giving false information to a Government official.
In Lusaka, the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, convicted and sentenced a Congolese to a fine of K12,000 for unlawful stay. He paid the fine and will be removed from the country.
The Magistrate’s Court in Lusaka on Tuesday also convicted and sentenced one Congolese woman to a fine of K200 for unlawful stay.
In other developments, Solwezi Regional Immigration Office on Tuesday, arrested four Congolese for unlawful stay.
At Mwami Border Control in Chipata, immigration arrested two Malawians for unlawful entry.
In Chirundu, the Immigration arrested two Congolese, one for unlawful entry and the other for concealing his true identity by using a Tanzanian Travel Document, while Immigration in Chingola arrested two Congolese for unlawful stay.
In Nakonde, the immigration refused entry to eight Tanzanians for using duplicated travel documents of identity and a Kenyan for using an expired passport. The same office also refused entry to four Ugandans for failing to provide reliable physical addresseses in Zambia.
Immigration in Mpulungu relocated two Burundese refugees to Maheba Refugee Camp.
