ZAMBIANS living in South Africa have called on President Edgar Lungu to ensure that the impending Republican Constitution considers the interests of those living in the diaspora.
Zambia Association in South Africa (ZASA) president Ferdinand Simaanya said yesterday that this would enable people living in the diaspora to participate actively in issues of national governance.
Mr Simaanya said this in a congratulatory letter to President Lungu, following his election as Zambia’s sixth President.
He said Zambians in South Africa were confident that Mr Lungu would strengthen the country’s economy and maintain a strong democratic process that will protect the interest of every Zambian.
“We are also confident your Excellency that you have brought a new voice of hope that negative elements observed can be addressed speedily and amicably to make Zambia a better place.
“We look forward to working with you as Zambians living in South Africa for the realisation of fruitful programmes that will inure to our mutual benefit,” Mr Simaanya said.
Meanwhile, Mr Simaanya commended the Head of State for appointing a woman, Inonge Wina as vice president.
