PSDA chairperson Yusuf Dodia said there was need for Government to consider bringing the country’s debt which was currently at US$7.7 billion to manageable levels.
“We recognise and acknowledge that Zambia’s debt both local and foreign is on the rise and the situation demands that we bring the debt to manageable levels,” Mr Dodia.
He said the PSDA would continue to share ideas on how best to manage the economy with Government, the private sector and the cooperating partners.
Mr Dodia said prudent economic management was vital to enable the country pay back loans and clear national debt.
Mr Dodia also appealed to the Government to put aside politics and focus its attention and energies on economic and social development.
“We urge the Government to put aside politicking and campaigns and focus on the country’s economic development, we know the Patriotic Front (PF) will be in office for a few months, before we go for another election but it is vital that at this point, the Government intensely focuses on economic development,” he said.
