CHIEF Government spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya has called on Zambians to celebrate the festive period with caution and uphold peace in 2014.

Mr Kapeya said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that Zambia had continued to be an oasis of peace for a long time now hence the need for citizens to uphold peace and stability.

“Even as we celebrate as a country, let us do so with caution and as we enter the year 2014, let us uphold the peace that we have continued to enjoy for decades now,” Mr Kapeya said.

He said Zambians should never take the peace that the country was enjoying for granted but must work towards preserving it.

Mr Kapeya who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister explained that peace was a pre-requisite to any kind of development hence the importance of the people to preserve it.

“On behalf of the Zambian Government, I wish all Zambians a prosperous new year, let us continue working together and preserve Zambia as an oasis of peace that is admired by many countries of the world.

“As a country, let us cherish the peace and stability that we have continued to enjoy even as we enter the year 2014,” he said.

Mr Kapeya said Zambia should continue to set an example of peace to the rest of the countries in the world.

He urged all those driving or travelling to be mindful and take care of themselves this festive season.
