A THIRTY-four-year-old man of Linda Township in Livingstone has been brutally assaulted by his wife after the two quarrel led yesterday as they were celebrating Christmas.

George Chileka was brutally beaten by his wife Monde Pumulo during a drinking spree at his friend’s house in Linda Township.

Mr Chileka sustained deep cuts on his neck as well as right hand and face. He later received medical attention at Livingstone General Hospital yesterday.

His wife, who was using bottles of beer to beat him has since been detained at Linda Police Station in Livingstone.

According to a police report obtained by Times of Zambia in Livingstone yesterday, Mr Chileka was unlawfully wounded and he sustained multiple deep cuts on the neck as well as the face and right hand.

Narrating the ordeal at Livingstone General Hospital, Mr Chileka said the incident happened around 08:00 hours yesterday as his wife and the rest of the group were drinking beer at his friend’s house.

“We were chatting and drinking beer at my friend’s place before my wife joined us at 05:00 hours.

“Around 08:00 hours, I differed with her and that is how she started beating me. I bled a lot and even fainted,” Mr Chileka said.

Vernon Hachola, who hosted the Christmas eve party, said the quarrel started after Mr Chileka and his wife differed over going back to their home.

“Around 08:00 hours Mr Chileka wanted to go home but his wife refused and the two started fighting. The wife was using bottles to beat him.

“The same lady beat me and other men who were trying to stop the fight. We, however, managed to drag her to Linda Police station where she was detained. We then got a medical report after seeing the police,” Mr Hachola said.
