THE Southern Water and Sewerage Company Limited (SWSC) has commenced works on the K2.7 million water reticulation project in the low-cost area of Chandamali Township in Choma.
The project, which would be completed within 12 months, would benefit about 12,000 households through adequate access to water supply.
SWSC corporate affairs manager Liversage Mulinda said commencement of the water project followed the Government’s release of the fund to SWSC from the Devolution Trust Fund (DFT).
Mr Mulinda said in a statement yesterday that actual works in the project would involve laying of 25 kilometers water supply network in the township to connect about 2,000 households.
“Further, 1,900 meters will be installed in line with the company’s policy of ensuring that all connections should be metered as a way of reducing non revenue water,” he said.
The connections through prepaid metres would ensure that customers only pay for the water which they use.
Chandamali, was among many low cost townships in Choma which lacked proper water supply network.
The project once completed, would improve the quality of water supply, increase hours of supply and extend coverage to the whole township.
