ZESCO has sub contracted two local companies for the electrification of Vubwi District at a cost of over K6 million.
Vubwi District Commissioner (DC) Eneless Banda said in Vubwi on Thursday that Zesco which has subcontracted other companies is currently putting poles in seven kilometres of the township.
Zesco had subcontracted Laatu and another company to ensure that it erects poles from Chipata to Vubwi District.
“Zesco who are doing seven kilometres of the township electrification has sub-contracted Laatu and another company which I don’t have a name at the moment to erect polls from Chipata upto here (Vubwi),”she said.
Ms Banda said the electrification of Vubwi District which was likely to be completed in two months was likely to foster a number of economic developments.
She said people of Vubwi who were currently having to travel long distances to Chipata to have their maize milled would now have hammer-mills closer to them.
The DC appealed to people to take advantage of electricity to put up a number of businesses which were requiring power.
She said Zesco was doing its best to ensure that the area was lit up.
Ms Banda said the people of Vubwi were eagerly waiting for the completion of the Chipata-Vubwi-Chadiza road which China Jiangxi International Corporation (CJIC) was constructing.
Government was also constructing an administration block, a civic, post office, rehabilitation of Chigwe -Chikoka road and construction of low and medium houses in the new district.
She was optimistic that once the ongoing projects were completed, Vubwi would be a district to envy in Eastern Province.
Ms Banda said the Government was also constructing an addition administration block which would house a number of Government’s department.
She appealed to people in the district to remain supportive to the Government of the day in order to achieve intended developmental goals.
She said the construction of a district hospital would also add an impetus to the health sector in the district.
