NKANA coach Beston Chambeshi has said Zesco United goalkeeper Jacob Banda’s outstanding performance was the reason his side failed to punish their guests in Sunday’s scoreless draw in Kitwe.
The Zesco goalkeeper made some critical saves throughout the game to deny Nkana a historic debut win over the defending MTN/FAZ Super League champions.
Chambeshi said in a post-match interview at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe that he was disappointed with the home draw in a match they had a stranglehold over Zesco.
“I think we put up a good fight and we played very well and we had chances. We supposed to bury them in the first half, but I think their goalkeeper, Jacob Banda, did a great job and saved Zesco and I am happy with the way my boys played,” Chambeshi said.
Banda denied Hoses Silwimba in the 13th minute Austin Muwowo in the 32nd minute.
He later made two daring interceptions from Djunes Kanda in the 41st minute and in the 62nd minute as Tony Odur prepared to pounce on a Claude Bwalya shot that Banda had just parried.
“Missing chances like that; we have to improve on that but with my technical staff we will try and polish that up the striking force,” Chambeshi added.
Meanwhile, Zesco coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina described the match as difficult but that he was happy his teams unbeaten record was still intact at six draws and nine wins since the Ndola club was promoted in 2004.
“I am not disappointed with the result. For what?. This one is gone, it was a difficult game.
You know we have been beating this team for a long time but they had been given ultimatums for them from what I read in the media so they had to put in everything.
They had chances we also had chances but no team managed to convert any chance,” he said.
Zesco are fifth after the draw on seven points from three games played, two points more than Nkana in ninth position, who have played five matches.
