SOUTHERN Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has urged churches in the province to collaborate with the Government to combat HIV/AIDS.
Mr Mubukwanu noted that Livingstone had recorded the highest HIV prevalence rate last year and, therefore, there was need for churches to step up their responsibility to help bring about behavioural change among the people.
He was speaking in Livingstone on Sunday at the 17th Episcopal District Board of Christian Education Congress held at Hillcrest National Technical Secondary School.
The Provincial Minister said churches must offer proper guidance that would steer up behavioural change among its members.
“We want churches to collaborate with the Government to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic by promoting behavioural change through their pulpits,” Mr Mubukwanu said.
He advised churches not to stop their members who were HIV-positive taking medication but to preach the true gospel that would encourage the people to accept their status.
Mr Mubukwanu also praised the church in Zambia for their continued spiritual guidance to the Government and for their support on issues of national development.
Episcopal supervisor Wilfred Messiah encouraged church members to be true disciples of Jesus Christ by looking after each other in society.
