CENTRAL Province Minister Davis Chisopa has expressed shock that the newly constructed Chipepo Secondary School in Kapiri Mposhi District which was scheduled to open in February, this year, has not done so.
Mr Chisopa has directed the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) to urgently begin mobilising staff to avoid the facility being vandalised.
Mr Chisopa wondered why it was taking long to open the facility to enable children, especially the girl child obtain the much needed education.
This was during the tour of the school in senior Chief Chipepo’s chiefdom yesterday,
Mr Chisopa, who was accompanied by Central Province Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale said the government had decided to embark on the construction and rehabilitation of schools to take education closer to the people in line with the Patriotic Front (PF) manifesto.
He said the government would not allow any further delays to the utilisation of such important facilities which cost tax payers money to be constructed.
“We don’t want to start hearing stories that this beautiful facility has been vandalised simply because it has not been occupied and if this happens, it will not be allowed,” he said.
But a Chinese contractor only identified as Hu from Huajang Construction firm said the works such as the installation of laundry and cooking pots had been completed but was currently installing sewer pipes whose works were almost complete.
The company representative could not give full details but referred all queries to the site manager who by press time was reported to be in Lusaka.
