ZAMBIA yesterday finished the first round of the 2015 Africa Junior Golf Championship in fourth place as defending champions South Africa ended as runaway leaders.
South Africa were runaway leaders with 218 points while Zimbabwe are in second on 231 points followed by Kenya in third with 237 points, just a point ahead of Zambia while Swaziland are on 247.
Uganda are sixth with 249 points, Tunisia have 252 points, Mauritius are on 257 with Botswana 268 points.
The Africa Junior Championship is a four-round Strokeplay tournament and ends on Friday this week.
In the Zambian team, the best performer was Kelvin Chibuye with five-over-par 78, just one stroke better than his mate at the Ndola Golf Club Gabriel Chibale and then Patrick Mwendapole Junior brought eight-over-par 81.
With just the best three scorers getting on each team’s scoresheet, Zambia captain Tristan Brice’s 10-over-par 83 did not count.
The best player on the day was South Africa’s Marcko Styne on two-under-par 71 and was followed by two countrymen Keagan de Lange and Dylan Naidoo on level-par 73.
The highest score was recorded by Ress Saeyed of Botswana and Emmanuel D’Afrifat of Mauritius who each scored 17-over-par 100.
Team-Zambia manager Chris Mulenga expressed some discomfort at the position saying Zambia could have easily been second save for a few unnecessarily dropped shots especially on the 18th.
