Nakambala 1 Zesco 2
A GOAL in each half propelled Zesco United to move equal on points with leaders Zanaco after yesterday’s hard fought win over Nakambala Leopards in an MTN-FAZ Super League Week Three rescheduled encounter.
Both Zanaco and Zesco are tied on 17 points but the bankers enjoy top slot by virtue of a superior goal difference over the champions who have now exhausted their un-played matches.
Nakambala, who lost by an identical score to Zanaco on Saturday, started the match brightly in search of their first league win but found it tough to break the Zesco defence with Moses Siyanda testing keeper Jacob Banda with a long shot on 34 minutes.
But Zesco found the break two minutes before half time through Winstone Kalengo, who caught the Nakambala defenders ball watching to fire in a power shot that left Moses Mapulanga sprawled on the ground.
Zesco started the second half with urgency and it took just a minute before Jackson Mwanza doubled the lead after he finished off a rebound after Mapulanga spilled an Ayo Oluwafemi shot.
Floyd Phiri had a chance to pull one back for Nakambala in the 51st minute but missed a point blank header off a Junior Zulu corner. But Zulu took things personal making a sole run on the right flank before he unleashed a powerful shot past Banda in goal in the 69th minute.
Nakambala’s chase for an equaliser suffered a setback after Mapulanga collided with his defender Webster Mulenga in the 85th minute and was forced off the pitch. Having already finished its substitutions, Luka Tembo was forced to replace Mapulanga in goal as the hosts played a man less to remain on three points on the log.
Buffaloes 1 Power 2
At Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka, SANDRA MWILA reports that Power Dynamos finally picked up a win to move into third place on the log with 13 points while Green Buffaloes’ indifferent start continued.
It was actually Buffaloes who took the lead as early as the second minute through Diamond Chikwekwe who capitalised on a Power defensive error as Billy Mutale struggled to clear the ball.
But Power equalised in the 11th minute through Govenda Simwala who finished a rebound after a Kennedy Mudenda penalty was saved.
Mutale had to be rushed to the hospital after a head collision with Jackson Chirwa in the 22nd minute and was replaced by Alex Mwamba.
However, Power managed to reorganise themselves and scored the winner through defender Christopher Munthali in the 76th  minute who headed in a corner by Larry Bwalya.
Buffaloes remain stuck on eight points.
