SPRINTER Sydney Siame is among the four runners that will represent Zambia at the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) World Challenge to be held in Dakar, Senegal.
Siame, who won gold in 100m at Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics with a time of 10:56 seconds and recently won bronze at the Africa Junior Athletics Championship, will be joined by 200m runner Titus Kafunda.
Also in the team for the World Challenge that starts on May 23 are Saviour Kombe and Rhoda Njovu, who will race in the men and women 400m races respectively.
National coach Douglas Kalembo said he was proud that athletics in the country had developed such that Zambian runners were making it big by taking part in international events.
“I am proud as coach that for the first time, our country is being recognised internationally because it has good athletes. I am positive we will perform well,” he said.
Meanwhile, 400m African champion Kabange Mupopo will this Saturday compete in the Diamond League in Qatar. Mupopo finished third at the World Challenge held in Jamaica last week.
Kalembo said he was positive that Mupopo will perform well judging from her previous performance in Jamaica.
Kombe and United States of America (USA) based sprinter Gerald Phiri will leave on May 20 to join Mupopo in Germany where they will camp. While there, the trio will take part in the World Challenge to be held in the Netherlands next month.
