THE Italian government has invited President Edgar Lungu to attend the Milan 2015 expo to showcase Zambia’s opportunities of trade and what the country possesses.
Italian Ambassador to Zambia Mario Dacco said on Wednesday evening that the Italian government has invited President Lungu and senior Government officials to attend the 2015 Milan expo in August.
The 2015 Milan expo has dedicated August 28, this year, as the day Zambia could showcase its products, services, nature and potential.
The ambassador was speaking at his residence during the 69th Italian Day where he hosted other ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Zambia, Italians living in Zambia, Government officials, among others.
“Italy has invited President Lungu and Zambia’s highest authorities to participate in this day and seize the opportunity to show the world Zambia’s excellence,” Mr Dacco said.
He said Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda was in Milan attending a forum of agriculture ministers at the expo.
Mr Dacco said relations between Zambia and Italy were excellent because they shared similar principles in many aspects.
Many Italians lived and had businesses in Zambia and Italy was Zambia’s first partner in the European Union trade exchange.
It was for that reason, Mr Dacco said, that the Italian Embassy was focusing its efforts in promoting economic cooperation and investments.
Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Deputy Minister Susan Kawandami said Zambia enjoyed good relations with Italy especially in the health, education and agriculture sector.
Ms Kawandami said Zambia wanted to strengthen the good relations between the two countries.
She said there was need to embrace consistent interchange and continue to explore new avenues of cooperation.
Ms Kawandami congratulated Italians on their day saying the country had continued to exhibit self-determination and social economic progress.
