THE Kabwe High Court has sentenced four men to 15 years imprisonment for stealing jewelry and cash worth more than K80, 000 from a farmer, while armed with a spear, iron bars and a machete.
Kabwe High Court Judge-in-charge Dominic Sichinga sentenced the four after they pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery.
Peter Katampi, Luka Banda, Davies Chisenga and Thomas Kasuba stole 13 boxes of jewelry, a pistol with 20 rounds of ammunition, two passports, work permit, decoder, DVD player, three cameras, seven pairs of shoes, safe box, suitcase, foreign currencies and a safe box on November 13, last year.
All this amounted to K88, 000 and belonged to Francis Burton of Mafundzalo area.
When the case came up for commencement of trial the four denied the charge but later opted to change plea and admitted to having committed the crime.
On the fateful night, the four tied the guard at the farm, identified as Ackson Muyabwa before dragging him into the house where they stole the goods.
They used force while armed with a spear, iron bars and a machete to prevent the guard from raising alarm.
The matter was later reported to police and investigations instituted, which led to the arrest of the four.
The convicts asked for lenience because they readily admitted the charge without wasting the court’s time.
