KITWE District on the Copperbelt has received more than 3,000 bags of Compound D fertiliser under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the 2015-16 farming season.
District agriculture coordinator Raphael Munyaule said the 3, 000 was out of the total of 18, 400 which had been allocated for the district for this farming season.
He said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the Government was on course in the exercise for delivery of farming inputs for the 2015-16 farming season.
“As a district, we have so far received 3, 000 by 50 kilogramme bags of D-compound for distribution to farmers under FISP,” he said.
Dr Munyaule, however, said distribution to farmers would only commerce once all the inputs were in the district and expressed confidence that all the inputs would soon arrive.
Meanwhile, Dr Munyaule said the Government project for construction of the five deep tanks in the district at a cost of K800,000 has been completed.
The dip tanks were located in various farming camps around the district to help with livestock disease control.
Dr Munyaule said the completion of the construction of the dip tanks was a positive development to the district especially that a number of farmers were now engaging in livestock farming.
“Farmers are happy with the construction of the dip tanks in the district because this will help boost their livestock farming as you know, there is an increase in people engaging in livestock farming in Kitwe,” he said.
He, however, bemoaned the inadequate land for cattle ranching in the district.
