A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD school boy has died in Mansa in Luapula Province after being buried alive, while excavating sand for use in a school
project.
The boy died when the pit he and other pupils at Milambo Primary School were digging to get building sand caved in and killed him instantly.
Frantic efforts were made to rescue him when the accident happened but the rescue team found he had already suffocated by the time he was
being retrieved.
Luapula Province Police chief Hudson Namachila, identified the deceased as Michael Kunda.
He said Kunda who was doing his sixth grade was part of a group of pupils that were digging building sand meant for the construction of a school block.
Mr Namachila said the boy’s parents refused to have a postmortem performed on the body because there was no foul play involved.
The parents have also indicated that they would not take any legal action against the school authorities for the death of the pupil.
