Chizongwe 4 Chongwe 1
CHIZONGWE Technical High School yesterday thrashed Chongwe to win the 2015 Copa Coca-Cola Schools Football Championship at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka to walk away with K15,000.
It was an emphatic victory for the Eastern Province representatives whose player Tony Ngoma won the man-of-the-match accolade as Chongwe, the Lusaka Province envoys, were once again left to finish second for a second year running to pocket K10,000.
Solwezi finished in third place to go with K7,000 to North-Western Province after beating Kaoma of Western Province 3-0.
Thomas Banda of Linda Secondary School from Southern Province got the top-scorer award with seven goals while the Player-of-the-Tournament award went to Solwezi captain, Prince Mumba.
The finals saw Chizongwe take the lead through Gift Mubanga in the 27th minute after beating Chongwe goalkeeper Joe Daka after finishing off a through ball from Ngoma.
Mathews Goma made it 2-0 for Chizongwe after heading in Joe Daka’s corner in the 48th minute as the Easterners continued dominating proceedings with Ngoma scoring the third in the 53rd minute with a long range shot.
Clement Makai made it four thanks to a Gift Mubanga’s cross to kill off any resilience from Chongwe who scored a consolation goal in the 85th minute through Stanley Banda.
Chongwe missed good scoring chances through Isaac Zuku and Allan Nyawali who hit the cross bar at some point.
Kaoma 0 Solwezi 3
Godfrey Mung’omba scored a brace to help Solwezi High claim third place as Collins Fezulu scored the other to ensure a win for Kaoma.
Meanwhile, former Chizongwe pupil John Phiri, who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, Sports Council of Zambia chairperson Mwamba Kalenga and Chris Kaunda were among those that watched the finals.
