ZESCO is investigating the cause of prolonged power outages in seven provinces which occurred on Friday last week.
Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata said the development affected Central, Copperbelt, Muchinga, Northern, Luapula, North-Western and Eastern provinces.
Mr Kapata said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the power outage occurred between 15 and 19:00 hours.
Power was only restored to the Copperbelt at 16:59 hours, North-Western Province at 18:34 hours while in Muchinga, Luapula, Central and Northern provinces power was restored at 18:40 hours.
Mr Kapata said the power utility company was concerned with reports from some of its clients that their electrical appliances were damaged as a result of load-shedding.
Mr Kapata said the development was saddening irrespective of the utility company’s several sensitisation messages in the media urging consumers to protect equipment from damage.
He advised members of the public to make regular inspections and maintenance of their premises and ensure power was switched off from all appliances after an outage. -ZANIS
