ERB checks 140 sub-sectors

THE Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has conducted more than 140 licensing inspections in electricity and petroleum sub-sectors during the first half of 2015.
ERB public relations manager Kwali Mfuni said the countrywide exercise included 72 inspections for tankers, 11 pre-commissioning inspections and 10 pre-burial inspections.
Ms Mfune said that the 11 pre-commissioning inspections were conducted at filling stations in Chililabombwe, Chinsali and Kitwe, among other towns, and that all the applications were recommended for approval expect for two sites.
Ms Mfune said in a statement yesterday that during the same period, the ERB finalised the assessment of the Indeni Refinery licence renewal application which was recommended for approval.
On the electricity sub-sector, the ERB investigated 13 incidents in Choma, Chipata and Kitwe, among other towns, and electricity installations were inspected at Victoria Falls power station and Kafue plant, among others, for compliance with set standards.
Ms Mfune said the technical audits of diesel generators were conducted at Konkola Copper Mines and Indeni Refinery, and five Environmental Impact Assessments were conducted for the proposed 500Kw Kushinjika Kesi mini-hydro power plant on Mujila River in Mwinilunga District.
