By DELPHINE ZULU –
THE Evangelical Youth Alliance International president Moses Lungu has called on clergymen in the country to help unite the country and avoid statements that threaten peace.
Reverend Lungu appealed to the clergy to desist from using the pulpit for political purposes as it was scriptural for them to promote peace and unity in any country as opposed to making statements that could divide the nation.
He said it was disgracing for clergymen to issue hate remarks against the Government before resolving serious challenges their churches were facing.
“Clergymen should not join the bandwagon of those criticising the Government of the day through the issuance of tribal remarks and attacking it unfairly. Ours is to offer solutions and not taking sides,” Rev Lungu said.
He said the Government meant well for the people of Zambia despite various economical challenges.
“The best the clergymen could do is to engage Government and help alleviate poverty and bring development,” Rev Lungu said.
He said this in reaction to remarks by some clergymen who were insinuating that the Government did not love Zambians.
Rev Lungu said that clergymen were part of solutions to the problems the country was facing by virtue of their status in society.
