By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
‘CHICKEN’ George Lwandamina has said winger Clifford Mulenga needs to work hard to earn a place in the Zesco United squad.
Mulenga, who signed for Zesco last week after his contract at South Africa’s Ajax Cape Town expired, is yet to make his debut for the Zambian champions and watched his new side’s 5-3 victory over Nkana on Saturday from the stands.
Lwandamina said at the weekend that there was need for the former Chipolopolo winger to work hard owing to stiff competition amongst players for places in the squad.
“Clifford is just like any other player, everyone is working hard to earn a place in the team and so he must fight for a place in the squad,” Lwandamina said in a post-match interview.
Meanwhile, Lwandamina praised his team’s character after twice coming from behind to trounce 12-time Zambian League champions Nkana in the MTN-FAZ Super League Week 20 fixture.
He said the players put up a brave fight to maintain a dominance record over the ‘Wusakile boys’, who are yet to beat Zesco since 2004.
“We have always been beating Nkana and I am happy with the way we played, we are going to take every game as it comes but what is important is to keep up the momentum,” he said.
Nkana coach Aggrey Chiyangi, who attributed his team’s loss to defensive errors, said his side will bounce back to winning ways and finish the season on a high.
“Losing to Zesco is nothing, we played well only that we could not defend our leads. We just have to work hard and seal the defensive loopholes, yes we have lost today but I can assure you that we will bounce back,” Chiyangi said.
Chiyangi later led the team into the laying of wreaths on late Nkana coach Masautso Mwale’s grave at Kansenshi Cemetery in Ndola.
That was after scores of fans and football administrators thronged the Cemetery in the morning to witness to unveiling of Mwale’s tombstone.
