ZAMBIAN swimmers Kasia Lewis and Kumaren Naidu yesterday wrapped up their campaign at the Samoa 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games on a dipping note with unsuccessful attempts for medals in the 50m freestyle.
Lewis posted a 30.31 seconds in the women category to finish fourth in her heat but ended up in distant 27th position overall as Australia’s Shayne Jack finished top to bag gold while Erin Gallagher of South Africa and New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fu’amausili shared silver after timing 25.82 seconds, respectively.
In the men’s 50m freestyle, Naidu swam in 26.80 seconds but finished fifth in his heat, behind Ariful Islam of Bangladesh (26.20) and David Hitchcock of Gibraltar, who finished in 22.93 seconds.
However, none of the participants in this heat were closer to the medal bracket that saw South Africa’s Zane Waddell grab gold after timing 22.85 seconds and Australia’s pair Jack Cartwright and Vincent Dai scooped silver and bronze after timing 22.93 and 22.98, respectively.
Zambia’s only medal is a bronze that came through boxer Emmanuel Ngoma.
