In the early 1980s when ZNBC TV aired Jack Jill’s Hammer House of Horror series, there was one unforgettable story; Guardian of the Abyss.
The story depicts an attempt by an occult priest Charles Randolph to incarnate Choronzon, keeper of the abyss, another term for Hell.
The background is that other persons who have tried to do so have all perished.
Cutting a long story short, antiques exporter Michael Roberts (played by Ray Lonnen) eventually wanders unknowingly into the grounds of the Choronzon Society, a Satanist group, looking to rescue his hypnotised lover Allison (Rosalyn Landor).
Unfortunately, he fulfills an ancient astrological requirement that the human sacrifice for the incarnation was to have been born on the solstice (June 21), should come ‘willingly’ and with the scrying glass which is used to hypnotise ritual victims.
Michael finds Allison held captive in a room; but instead of her escaping with him, she rings a bell to alert Randolph who arrives and captures Michael with the help of his assistants.
They tie up the victim and lay him shirtless on the altar, and one, Simon Andrews (played by Paul Darrow), plunges a long knife into his heart. As soon as the victim breathes his last, a strong wind with lightning swirls into the room.
There appears the form of a full-grown buffalo lying on its back in place of Michael’s body, and the deathly manifestation slowly gets absorbed into the human form.
The incarnated Choronzon stands up, pulls the knife out of its chest, takes Allison by the waist and raises a sign with the index and middle fingers towards the priests who swiftly kneel in obeisance.
The Guardian of the Abyss has been incarnated, and by this achievement, Randolph will be rated the greatest of all astrologers.
EXPERIMENTS
The one difficulty with that story is that it is based on real events. Added to that, it is about to be enacted in real life, and that will be one of the horrific results of free-ranging experiments in the realm of science and technology.
And these are experiments aimed at recreating man in another image, not the biblical image of God. Follow closely as we establish the linkages.
Revelations 9:1 and 11 tell us that there actually exists an angel that rules over the abyss, the bottomless pit, whose Hebrew name is Abaddon, and whose Greek name is Apollyon.
While the name Choronzon is used in the movie in question, that name has been in use in occultic circles since top 16th-century occultists Edward Kelley and John Dee started writing about this demon. Later in time, Aleister Crowley founded an occultic system called thelema in which Choronzon is a key element; and in December 1909 Crowley is recorded to have incarnated this demon in the Sahara desert.
The whole of Revelations 9 outlines two disasters that will befall the world in the time of the end, at the behest of this angel.
Firstly, the angel will unleash locusts having the power of scorpions from the bottomless pit.
They will not touch the natural environment but will afflict those who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads.
On Friday April 3, our article Signs of the End of the World Part Two, discussed the microchip that will be implanted in people’s wrists, hands and foreheads for reason of financial and economic transactions.
The microchip will bear a code that signifies ‘666’ which will commit its owner to the worship of the Anti-Christ who will rule the coming World Government.
Only those who will bear this mark will be able to buy and sell and carry out all essential transactions; those without it (because of choosing to worship Yahweh through Jesus Christ) shall be deemed capital offenders. Conversely, those who bear the ‘666’ will stand absolutely opposed to the Most High and to those who bear His seal which will be concealed within their foreheads.
We did see in that article that the chip implant will leak, according to Revelations 16:2, and its contents (presently 250,000 components including a lithium battery) will cause festering boils on millions of people.
This, with the emergence of the locust-scorpions will be part of a line of seven judgments that will befall the peoples of the earth in those times.
We see in Revelations 9 that the locusts are shaped like horses prepared for battle; having crowns of gold on their heads; the faces of men; hair like women; and teeth like lion’s teeth.
They also have breastplates of iron; wings; and tails like scorpions’ tails.
Their assignment is to torment people for five months.
The second disaster sees the release of four angels who are presently bound at the Euphrates River.
The four angels, prepared in devastating detail for the hour, the day, the month and the year, come out to kill a third of the human population.
Two hundred million lion-headed horses appear, breathing fire, smoke and brimstone; destroying by their mouths and tails. Their riders are beings with breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue and sulfur yellow.
In spite of this, Revelations 9:20 and 21 reports: “The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and silver and of brass and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor talk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.” How does this connect with today’s science and technology?
RECREATE
There is today a stampede to recreate humankind so that a new breed emerges which has supernatural, bio-robotic and bio-digital capacity and ability.
The creation of a perfect person, superhumanly endowed, has been the goal of many politicians, scientists, philosophers and other influential persons for ages.
If you remember, many popular movies have warned about scientific experiments gone wrong, in which resurrected dead persons have turned against their makers; or where revived prehistoric animals have ran amok and massively destroyed human life.
One of the most popular stories is Mary Shelley’s 1818 science fiction novel Frankenstein which has yielded many film productions.
The book was born out of a dream she had at the age of 18, of a scientist who created a life out of dead body parts and was horrified by what he had made.
You will easily remember Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel Jurassic Park which is focused on a fictional island Islar Nublar in the Pacific, off Central American and near Costa Rica.
A billionaire and genetic scientists create a wildlife park of cloned dinosaurs which break out of their enclosed abode.
It became a hugely popular movie on production in 1993.
The authors and producers of these stories may not have seen the prophetic value of their works.
This is the premise of this discourse, for it is certain that natural mutation has thus far not produced any of the creatures prophesied in Scripture or depicted in science fiction stories.
What is well-nigh possible is the invention of genetically manipulated species which their inventors will fail to control, which will overrun civilization in the times of the end.
These are the creatures that will be unleashed by the Guardian of the Abyss.
HUMANOIDS
Today scientists are into robots designed with human features; they are termed humanoids, androids, cyborgs and other appellations.
It is claimed that all the experiments are intended to enhance understanding of the human body.
Human cognition is a field of study focused on how humans learn from sensory information in order to acquire skills of motion and perception.
It is claimed that such knowledge goes into developing computational models of human behaviour, and such knowledge has been improving over time.
Disney attractions employ the use of animatrons; robots that look, move, and speak much like human beings, in some of their theme park shows.
Now it has been suggested that highly advanced robotics will enhance ordinary humans. This brings us to the discussion of Transhumanism.
TRANSHUMANISM
There exists an international movement which aims to transform the human condition by the use of technologies to greatly enhance the intellectual, physical and psychological capacities of human beings. The idea is to overcome human limitations so that eventually human beings may transform into posthumans; people with greatly expanded capabilities.
At the surface of it, it is a scientific ambition to improve the individual human. Below sea level, it is about fundamentally changing you and changing me into our own gods.
Transhumanism is the augmenting of human bodily functions via the use of robotics or chemicals. Such science is believed to be able to enhance the body by giving it greater capacities such as enhanced speed, strength, faster healing of tissue cells by modifying the genes, and adding animal abilities to humans, in cases where cells are crossed between species.
You can have computer software implanted into you, which will have an interface (or working relationship) with your brain; and your life will be extended.
All this has been described by observers as an extension of man’s search for immortality and an attempt to stop the aging process.
The World Transhumanist Association (WTA) was formed in 1998 by two philosophers Nick Bostrom and David Pearce.
The association is working toward the recognition of transhumanism as a legitimate subject of scientific inquiry and public policy.
The WTA is at the forefront of a now global movement to transform man.
Keeping the Revelations 9 scenario in mind, take into consideration the sentiments of researcher Chris Arkenberg, writing Five Dark Scenarios of Transhumanity:
Current human population is about 6.8 billion with most linear estimates projecting somewhere around 9 billion by 2050.
If life extension is designed to be readily available to anyone and everyone, a crisis of resources will arise. Gross Domestic Product may rise as people may work for 70 years—but consumption will shoot up.
Social upheavals will arise as only a few will afford the cost of new transhumanist technologies, thus amplifying class distinctions in societies. Moral conflicts will arise from both sides of the gap, as some will enjoy technology-induced superiority.
Civil strife is a common outcome of disparity caused by uneven access to resources, opportunities, and power. A class of techno-elite transhumans would pose a profound existential threat to the underclass who might see themselves as being forever excluded from the democratic ideal that “all humans are created equal”, no longer able to compete in any capacity without transhuman enhancements.
Arkenberg foresees the rise of a transhuman ruling class who, when challenged by the underclass, withdraw into their own sense of authority and enhanced intelligence, deciding that the only appropriate course of action is to subjugate the masses and uphold governance by the transhumans. In simpler terms, a dictatorship by Transhumans over sub-humans will arise.
The darkest scenario might see transhuman governance enforcing the control and tracking of implants in all newborn babies.
What Arkenberg says next causes fears that mind-control that will be enforced from massive servers to manage the behaviour of the new transhuman race:
“Virtual worlds and augmented reality offer many compelling experiences across the spectrum of entertainment, socialization, marketing and advertising, collaboration, and modern knowledge work. At their core, these technologies intermediate our experience of the world, giving third parties access to programme our sensorium. Brain-computer interface technologies are working to extend this access to the core structures of our brain, kicking off a wave of neuro-technologies able to more specifically and accurately influencing the mind-brain interface.”
EQUALITY
Francis Fukuyama, professor of international political economy at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and member of the President’s Council on Bioethics, says the first victim of transhumanism might be equality.
Fukuyama argues: “Underlying this idea of the equality of rights is the belief that we all possess a human essence that dwarfs manifest differences in skin colour, beauty, and even intelligence.
This essence, and the view that individuals therefore have inherent value, is at the heart of political liberalism.
“But modifying that essence is the core of the transhumanist project. If we start transforming ourselves into something superior, what rights will these enhanced creatures claim, and what rights will they possess when compared to those left behind? If some move ahead, can anyone afford not to follow?
These questions are troubling enough within rich, developed societies. Add in the implications for citizens of the world’s poorest countries—for whom biotechnology’s marvels likely will be out of reach—and the threat to the idea of equality becomes even more menacing.”
This is a day when human beings are changing rapidly, more so in the US, so that fewer and fewer people there can answer the question: Who are you?
Technology is already enabling people to change their gender. Today there are bisexuals; people who have sex with both males and females.
There are trisexuals; people who have sex with males, females and transgender individuals (who are not male, not female). There are polysexuals whose sex drive goes beyond all this.
In tomorrow’s new world, boys shall not grow to become men, and girls shall not mature to become women anymore. To this add Transhumanism and you have generations of new creatures that no one will be able to control.
