GREEN Eagles at the weekend produced an all-conquering display as they were crowned champions of the 2015 Owen Busange Sevens Rugby Tournament staged at Konkola Rugby Club in Chililabombwe.
The Zambia National Service (ZNS) side, who deserved the accolades after a solid performance, trounced Diggers B in the final to lay hands on the K8, 000 winners’ prize.
Norman Mwamba powered in two tries while Medo Nyirongo and Musangile scored a try each with Tedius Chipoya contributing a conversion to inspire Eagles to a resounding victory over the Kitwe side that bagged K5000.
Eagles dumped Diggers A out of contention in the quarterfinals with a 31-5 thrashing before seeing off Nkwazi via a 19-10 score in the round of four.
Diggers B sailed through to the final after overpowering Eagles B with a 29-0 score in the round of eight and went on to eliminate KPF 1-0 in the semi finals.
Hosts Konkola thrashed Ndola Wanderers 26-0 to win the plate final and walk away with K4000 while the Ndola outfit bagged K3,000.
Eagles’ player Mwamba was voted Player of Tournament for his outstanding performance while Konkola was the most disciplined team with Ndola Wanderers as the Best War Cry (Haka).
Chibuluma, Green Buffaloes, Roan, Mufulira, Prisons, Kansanshi and Red Arrows who are away on military exercise, missed out on the tournament.
