By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA at Lusaka Club –
THE Zambia women bowling team yesterday rose to the occasion at the ongoing Africa States Bowl tournament, putting up a dominant display while the men struggled to lived up to expectations.
After starting with a win and a loss against South Africa in the triples and fours, the women bowlers added a 21-13 win in the pairs and then a 13-12 to get a morale-boosting win over the South Africans.
When Namibia came calling, the Foster Banda-led team took a convincing 15-8 win in the pairs before sharing spoils in the triples with a 13-13 score.
It was a satisfying first two days for the Zambian women, who are the China Open champions, and will look to build on that performance today as they complete the challenge from Namibia.
But for the men, it was a different story as they were cleaned by South Africa in the singles and fours (rinks) with the same poor result following the Zambia team when it came up against Namibia.
After losing 21-8 in the singles to South Africa, Zambia’s Harry Musonda put up some decent resistance before losing 21-19 to Namibia.
In the fours, Zambia came short against South Africa losing 16-7 and then got battered 36-31 by Namibia.
Against Malawi, the Zambian men finally came on top and won 25-7.
The tournament continues at Lusaka Club for the men and Central Sports for the women.
