ZANACO yesterday reclaimed the second slot on the MTN-FAZ Super League table after beating 12-time champions, Nkana and stay six points behind leaders Zesco United.
A spectacular free-kick by Moses Phiri in the 61st minute settled matters for Zanaco, who moved to 49 points after this Week 24 fixture in Lusaka.
Defending champions Zesco, with a game in hand against Nkwazi, lead the chart on 55 points.
After struggling in the first half, Phiri, a second half replacement for Aubrey Funga, made the difference in this game to earn himself a man-of-the-match award.
Both teams managed to craft scoring opportunities but failed to convert.
Nkana’s Fred Tshimenga and Walter Bwalya fluffed their scoring chances while Simon Bwalya saw his shot hit the cross bar before Zanaco goalkeeper, Racha Kola came to the rescue.
Salulani Phiri and Funga also could not turn their opportunities into goals for Zanaco in the first half.
The loss left Nkana still hanging in the ninth position on 31 points with games to the close of the season.

Mufulira Wanderers lived up to their ‘Mighty’ tag by thumping their hosts Lusaka Dynamos in a lunchtime kick-off at Sunset.
Dynamos made a false start to this Week 24 fixture when Conlyde Luchanga turned in an Emmanuel Habasimbi pass in the fifth minute.
But Wanderers hit back in the 32nd minute through Chisopa Malama, who beat two Dynamos defenders, Mike Mudenda and Liason Thole Liason, to restore parity.
Jacob Ngulube put Wanderers ahead with a cracking shot outside the box before Eric Chibuye sealed the victory when he tapped in inside the box in the 58th minute.
Wanderers moved to fifth place on 38 points, two better than Nkwazi, who have a game in hand against Zesco United while Dynamos remain 10th on 28 points.
