TWO men have been sentenced hang by the Kabwe High Court after finding them guilty of aggravated robbery in which K96,000 cash was snatched at gun point.
High Court Judge-in-Charge Dominic Sichinga sentenced Bernard Chanda and George Phiri to hang by the neck until pronounced dead after the prosecution found them liable for aggravated robbery.
This is in the case where Chanda, Phiri and a juvenile were facing one count of aggravated robbery, a charge they denied.
Particulars of the offence are that the three on May 23, 2015 in Mkushi District jointly and whilst acting together with others and armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and a machete, stole from Danny Sikapizye.
The three, with others, stole K96,000 cash and two cellular phones all valued at K96,140 and did use actual violence on Mr Sikapizye in order to prevent his property from being stolen.
However, during trial the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence against the juvenile linking him to the crime.
In passing judgment, Justice Sichinga said the prosecution proved a case against Chanda and Phiri but failed to link the juvenile to the crime and he acquitted him.
Justice Sichinga sentenced Chanda and Phiri to hang by the neck until they are pronounced dead for the criminal offence they committed.
