By SANDRA MWILA –
‘CHICKEN’ George Lwandamina has dropped midfielder Kennedy Mudenda and goalkeeper Danny Munyao for this Sunday’s Rwanda 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) final round return leg qualifier against Mozambique.
Mudenda, who started the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola before he was substituted for Spencer Sautu in the 58th minute, has been left out together with Munyao, Kayawe Kapota and Solomon Sakala in the 20-member squad announced by Lwandamina.
New call ups Mwelwa Mwape, Moses Phiri and Mwila Phiri, who were summoned after the first leg, seemed to have impressed Lwandamina to earn slots in the final team that leaves today for Maputo.
Meanwhile, Lwandamina said the technical bench has done its homework in readiness for the game and that, the main objective is to ensure the Chipolopolo qualifies for the CHAN finals.
“Our main objective is to qualify to the CHAN finals and we have to work towards the distance between Rwanda and now. We have done 75 per cent of the work and we will be 100 per cent ready in the remaining two days before the game,” Lwandamina said.
Lwandamina said he is not under pressure to qualify the team to CHAN finals but that destiny will determine the team’s qualification.
“I am never under pressure to qualify to a tournament, it is destiny that will tell us, we have done our work physically and now it remains with the spiritual part which is God’s destiny,” he said
Lwandamina said it would be good if the team scores early goals as that will see them take control of the game.
“It would be good if we score early goals but I can’t determine that as it will depend on the circumstances that will arise. I will not say how many goals we can score, they maybe more or less, I am not a prophet.
“I don’t play mind games because if I start predicting you the same people will come and eat me to my own words,” he said.
He said despite scoring three unanswered goals in the first leg, the battle was not over because the return leg will just be like the second half of the game.
Lwandamina said his tactical approach has never been to defend unless circumstances arise to make him do that.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo midfielder Lubambo Musonda netted his third goal for his Armenia club, Gandzasar Kapan scoring a 63rd minute goal in the 3-1 win over FC Pyunik.
Musonda unleashed a shot inside the box after beating the Pyunik defence and goal keeper.
Gandzasar are currently fourth in the Armenia Premier League with 17 points behind log leaders Alashkirt, who have 21 points.
The full team has goalkeepers: Jacob Banda (Zesco United) and Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco).
Defenders: Christopher Munthali (Power Dynamos), Benedict Chapeshi (Red Arrows), Salulani Phiri (Zanaco), Daut Musekwa (Zesco), Buchizya Mfune (Green Buffaloes), Boyd Mkandawire (Napsa Stars) and Donashano Malama (Nkana).
Midfielders: Charles Zulu (Zanaco), Jack Chirwa (Green Buffaloes), Paul Katema (Red Arrows), Mwelwa Mwape (Zesco), Mwila Phiri (Green Eagles) and Benson Sakala (Power Dynamos).
Conlyde Luchanga (Lusaka Dynamos) leads the strikers who include Moses Phiri (Zanaco), Winston Kalengo (Zesco), Fetsus Mbewe (Red Arrows) and Spencer Sautu (Green Eagles).
