Edify Haamukale said agri-business had the potential to contribute more than One trillion Kwacha to the Zambian economy by 2030.
At the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) public discussion forum in Lusaka during the week, Dr Haamukale said the Government needed to concentrate on agriculture to diversify the economy since copper prices were slumping.
Dr Haamukale said Zambia had the potential to produce three crop harvests in a year if stakeholders seriously pondered on agriculture.
“The country has the potential to produce three crop harvests, one rain-fed and the other two using irrigation,” he said.
“The agri-business has the potential to contribute about one trillion Kwacha to the Zambian economy by the year 2030,” Dr Haamukale said.
Dr Haamukale also called on Zambian graduates to be proactive and concentrate on creating new inventions that would help improve the agriculture sector.
He commended the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) for implementing the e-agriculture which was aimed at improving farming techniques in the country.
