Jassy, Monge miss Barn Rally

STAR drivers Jassy Singh and Paul Monge will miss this weekend’s Barn National Rally Championship, the eighth on the Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) calendar because of faulty cars.
This leave upstarts Muna Singh Jnr, Leroy Gomes and Farook Ticklay to compete for the title in this rally to be held in Chongwe today and tomorrow.
The two-day event has attracted more than 20 drivers with five of them from the Copperbelt and the rest from Lusaka.
Former African champion Jassy and Monge have no cars to take part in this event that will have Viyon Pinto leading in Class B and Kumereen Naidu leading in Class C where the winner will pocket to win K1, 000.
Naidu is also national swimming champion.
Drivers will be expected to compete on a total distance of more than 235kilometres with the first stage covering a distance of 17.1 kilometres, 12.69 kilometres for the second stage which is the bull stage.
The third stage being is the waterfall stage and will not have spectators will cover a distance of 10 kilometres.
Gomes Haulage will provide the K15, 000 prize money where the winner will pocket K4, 000 in Class-A with K3000 reserved for the runner-up and then K2, 000 and K1000 for third and fourth finishers respectively.
Barn Motel are the main sponsors for this event and they came to the association’s aid by contributing K60, 000.
Other sponsors are Kwikfire extinguisher services with a K15, 000 fillip, Pro-Watch also coming in as a co-sponsors and they will be present to provide GPS safety provision in all the cars for easy tracking of participants in case of accidents or any form of breakdown.
Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) vice-president Sam Ching’ambu said during the press briefing at Barn Motel yesterday that the budget for the event had been met.
“Most of these are not in monetary form but they have greatly helped us to reduce on expenses. We set K70, 000 but with the services being offered, we are seeing everything getting to K85, 000,” he said.
He said that Pembe Milling had also come on board with 100 bags of Millie Meal which the association will donate to Kasisis Orphanage.
