AS Zambia dilly dallies over the final squad for next weekend’s Senegal Africa Under-23 championships, Group A rivals, South Africa have named the 21 players for the tournament which is an Olympic Games qualifier.
When the junior Chipolopolo regrouped yesterday after players were released for the final league matches, coach Fighton Simukonda opted not to speak.
Zanaco forward Moses continued to be an absentee without explanation though he has continued to feature for his club.
As Simukonda works with a list of 33 players in his mind, administrators are sweating on finding money to send the team to Senegal for the eight-team tournament whose best three will represent Africa at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.
South Africa however flies out to the West Africa country on Tuesday to acclimatise to the searing heat on the country.
Meanwhile group rivals are already looking forward to the competition with coach Owen Da Gama cutting his side to just 21 players who tomorrow enter intensive camp for the championships.
According to the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) website, da Gama had kept the bulk of the players that qualified them to the continental championship but spiced it up with a few new inclusions.
“I believe this is a very competitive side we have selected.
We have already played a number of matches together and I know what to expect from these players.
The good thing is that these boys want to play in the Olympics. So I am confident they will do well,” said Da Gama.
Zambia is in a tough Group A with hosts Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
