THE newly constructed Munyumbwe hospital in Gwembe District of Southern Province will be commissioned in May this year.
District Commissioner (DC) Alice Mwiinga also said that the construction of 10 rural health posts spread across the district was progressing well.
Ms Mwiinga said in an interview yesterday that preparatory works to commission the modern Munyumbwe hospital had reached an advanced stage.
“Right now, we are busy with preparations to commission this brand new hospital built by Government and in the next four months, this facility should be open to the public,’’ she said.
The hospital, whose first phase was completed at a cost of about K11 million, would help reduce referral cases in the vast district.
Ms Mwiinga said the hospital would provide quality health services alongside Gwembe District hospital.
The DC said completion of the two health facilities had cheered the people of Gwembe who were grafeful to President Edgar Lungu’s development agenda.
“Gwembe hospital is functioning well and at the moment, we are also putting up a big wall-fence and a mother’s shelter,“she said.
The Government was also putting up 10 rural health posts in various parts of the district.
Ms Mwiinga said the construction of health centres among others, Hamatuba, Chipepo, Nakasika and Siampande had advanced.
These facilities were among the 99 health posts that Government was constructing across the 13 districts in Southern Province, a move which has cheered the local people.
Ms Mwiinga was happy that Gwembe was receiving a substantial share of developmental projects that would uplift people’s welfare.
