Parent testifies in defilement case

A LUSAKA parent yesterday testified how his eight-year-old daughter was allegedly defiled by a 22-year-old man who left her unconscious.
Peter Mwila 22, a mechanic of George Township in Lusaka is charged with three counts of abduction, defilement and burglary, offences committed on November 16, last year.
The girl who has so far undergone two operations is still hospitalised and is unable to talk.
Mwila, with others unknown broke and entered  into the house  of a named couple and stole a Samsung cellphone, a loaf of bread and K800.
He was also accused of abducting two girls and harming one of them.
During trial before Lusaka Magistrate Judith Chiyaika yesterday, father of the girl told the court that although his daughter was responding to treatment, he was traumatised to see her swollen face and blood oozing from her ears.
The girl is currently admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH)
The girl was said to have sustained serious injuries to her ribs and other parts of her body.
He testified that on the material day around 04:00 hours, he was woken up by his wife who told him that the door to the house was open.
He woke up only to discover that one of her daughters aged eight was missing from her bed and started looking for her.
He rushed to the police where he found a curious crowd staring at a child who had been abducted and was about to be taken to UTH.
The family followed the car and were informed about what had happened to the girl.
He said doctors asked him to sign a consent form to enable them conduct an operation
Trial continues on January 26, 2016.
