PLAY at the R15 million-rich BMW South Africa golf Open tournament was yesterday afternoon suspended due to stormy  weather conditions with Zambian Madalitso Muthiya hanging on to dear life.
With the cut provisionally set at two-over-par, Muthiya was three-over par after the first nine holes and needed to fight hard to make the cut and will be hoping the weather improves together with his game.
Needing to do better than the two-over –par 74 he garnered in the first round, Muthiya shot one-over-par in the first nine holes of the second, round 10 strokes behind the pace-setting pair of South African
Keith Horne and Branden Grace before play was suspended.
The Zambian was 11 places below the projected cut on the scoring board hanging at 71st position in a field of 155.
Muthiya should return to the Glendower Golf course today to finish the back nine but needs his game back to make the cut.
Overnight leader Jaco Van Zyl could not replicate his round-one heroics display as he shot three-under-par.
Muthiya has had a good run of form on the Sunshine Tour, last year he shot eight-under par at Sun Sibaya Challenge and Vodacom origins of Golf. He also had good outings at Alfred Dunhill Championship and Netbank Affinity Cup as South Africa has proved to be a good hunting ground for him.
But his big pay cheque came in Mauritius when he won the 2015 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open followed by the 2015 Uganda Open in Kampala Kenya.
